Orange County’s Government Center in Goshen and court-related agencies housed there were still struggling to get back to normal Friday, almost a week after it was crippled by Tropical Storm Irene. The 44-year-old modernistic structure, whose many roofs are notorious for leaking, lost power and phone service when water from the storm poured into the building. Crews also faced a substantial cleaning job.

Personnel from the district attorney’s office left the building for satellite offices in Middletown and Newburgh. They hope to return today, said Chief Assistant District Attorney Richard Ruggeri. “There’s a lot of juggling going on, but you have to do what you have to do,” he said. The county attorney’s office also decamped, settling at an emergency operations center near the jail.
