The Suffolk County Water Authority successfully fought a motion to dismiss its suit against the makers of a dry-cleaning agent thought to be toxic when a state judge ruled that the authority adequately established product liability and negligence claims.

The water authority sued more than 20 companies involved in the creation of Perchloroethylene, or PCE, and the equipment that uses the chemical, claiming they were aware of improper disposal of PCE, one source of the water contamination it found in a routine examination of wells.
