Shearman & Sterling on Friday said it has hired an assistant director at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in its Washington, D.C., office. Donald N. Lamson joined as counsel in the firm’s 50-partner financial institutions advisory and financial regulatory practice. At the OCC, Mr. Lamson was in the securities and corporate practices division and played a “significant role” in the government’s efforts to reform its national banking laws, according to the firm. “This is an important area of focus for our clients, and we know that Don will work with our existing team to provide the highest quality counsel in these areas,” Barney Reynolds, Shearman’s London-based global regulatory practice leader, said in a statement.

Mr. Lamson worked closed with the Treasury Department in drafting the financial reform legislation pending in Congress and on bailout issues. His role in particular focused on the areas of derivatives and securities, the firm said. Brad Sabel, a regulatory partner in New York, said in a statement that Mr. Lamson “brings to the firm both exceptional legal abilities and strong governmental experience, particularly given his involvement in much of the recent U.S. legislative effort.” – Nate Raymond
