The June 9 article, “District Attorneys Warn Budget Cuts Will Result in Significant Layoffs, Impair Ability to Fight Crime,” compares the budgets of the four counties and special narcotics prosecutor with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, which is like comparing apples to oranges.

The budget figures used in the accompanying chart includes a nearly $12.5 million dollar allotment for rent, heat light and power. This is money over which the Kings County District Attorney’s Office has absolutely no control. We are in a privately owned building because a prior administration entered into a lease in the Marriott office tower for this office and other agencies to support the economic development of downtown Brooklyn. The lease was negotiated by the City of New York and the payment of rent is automatic.
