Finding that a penalty imposed by the state Department of Health was severe enough, an Albany judge last week overturned as “excessive” an order by the Workers’ Compensation Board that deprived a Long Island neurologist of up to 20 percent of his practice.

The neurologist, James M. Liguori of New Hyde Park, had been censured by the Health Department in 2008 for failing to maintain accurate records. The department’s Office of Professional Misconduct also fined Dr. Liguori $25,000 and placed him on probation for three years during which he is to be supervised by another doctor.
