Courts to Save $1.7 Million From Early Retirement Plan

In the Unified Court System’s effort to save money, 145 court employees have accepted a $20,000 bonus and agreed to leave their jobs. Lawrence K. Marks, administrative director of the system, said yesterday that the workers, who will be off the payroll by Sept. 2, were among some 800 who were offered incentives as part of a cost-savings initiative. He said the vacated positions will not be filled through March 31, 2010, the end of the fiscal year, and possibly not after then, depending on how crucial administrators determine the jobs are (NYLJ, July 27).
