ALBANY – State court administrators have amended their rules to allow sex offense courts in selected counties to begin hearing misdemeanor cases and to give Chief Administrative Judge Ann Pfau (See Profile) the authority to establish sex offense courts anywhere in the state.

The changes reflect the promising nature of the state’s experience with sex offense courts since the first one was introduced in Oswego County in 2005, according to Acting Justice Judith Harris Kluger (See Profile), head of the Office of Policy and Planning for the Unified Court System.
