On Wednesday, LexisNexis Legal & Professional announced the expansion of its free U.S. law school access plan for Lexis+ AI to include law students at select institutions, starting as early as this week, according to a press release. The new offering is an extension of a fall 2023 initiative by LexisNexis that gave Lexis+ AI access to a group of law school professionals, including law librarians, to help test the product for law school uses. Lexis+ AI will now be offered to students at American Bar Association-accredited law schools, the release said.

According to a survey recently conducted by LexisNexis of over 450 law school librarians, legal research and writing, and legal technology professors who participated in the initial test offering of Lexis+ AI, 78% intend to include generative AI tools in the spring 2024 curriculum. LexisNexis plans to use feedback from those test users to “further optimize the solution for law school users, provide guided study tailored to the law school curriculum, develop cutting-edge and ethical AI education tools,” according to the release.

Sean Fitzpatrick, CEO of LexisNexis North America, UK and Ireland, called the new law school offering “a win-win that helps the next generation of lawyers prepare to practice by honing their skills using Lexis+ AI. At the same time, law school faculty and student feedback is critically important to the continued development of the solution,” he added.
