U.S. District Judge Paul Crotty of the Southern District of New York on Monday denied a motion by mental health advocacy groups to block Mayor Eric Adams’ directive on the involuntary hospitalization of people who appear to be mentally ill.

Crotty denied the motion for a preliminary injunction without prejudice, ruling that he did not have standing over the mental health organizations or the individual plaintiffs, who together filed an amended class action suit against the city in December 2021.
