Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday vetoed a bill that had intended to make it easier for judges to remain on the bench past 70, New York’s mandatory retirement age.
Judges who want to work past 70 must apply for certification, in two-year increments until they reach 76, to an administrative board consisting of New York’s chief judge and four appellate presiding justices.
