Opposition to New York Chief Judge Janet DiFiore’s sweeping plan to “simplify” the statewide court system emerged Monday, as two Supreme Court justices’ associations sent a formal, detailed argument to state legislators asserting the concept would transfer enormous power to DiFiore and the Office of Court Administration.

DiFiore’s plan would maintain but reorganize the state’s 11 different courts into a series of tranches that would include now-appointed judges, under the umbrella of an expanded Supreme Court.
