President Joe Biden nominated U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, a federal appeals court that recently saw its composition flip to a majority of Democratic appointees among its active judges.

Nathan currently serves in the Southern District of New York after being nominated to the bench by former President Barack Obama in 2011. She would be the second LGBTQ+ woman to sit on any federal appeals court, following Judge Beth Robinson’s confirmation to the Second Circuit earlier this month.
