A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Wednesday heard oral arguments in a case alleging that a group of major retailers had violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by failing to offer Brailled gift cards to blind customers who wanted to visit their stores.

The appeal, which sought to reverse a lower court order dismissing the claims for lack of standing, argued that gift cards qualified as services and public accommodations under the landmark 1990 civil rights law.
