In a detailed report released Wednesday, an association of New York state judges of color called on the state court system to address issues of systemic racism and unconscious bias in its ranks.

The Judicial Friends Association has submitted the report, which includes detailed recommendations for how to fix the problems identified by the group, to Jeh Johnson, who was named special adviser on equal justice in the courts in June. Johnson, a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, is expected to release the findings of his evaluation by Oct. 1.
