Attorneys representing the Federal Defenders of New York and the Federal Bureau of Prisons agreed Friday that video and telephone legal calls at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Correctional Center and Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center will be necessary for the foreseeable future, even after the facilities reopen for physical visits.

A timeline for the resumption of physical legal visits has not yet been announced, but attorneys representing the Federal Defenders emphasized that lawyers with health issues or vulnerable people in their households should not be disadvantaged by the reopening process.
