New York City has seen an overall steady decline in the number of misconduct lawsuits levied against the police department and its officers over the last five years, according to a statistical report issued Wednesday by the city Law Department and a summary of some of its numbers provided by The Legal Aid Society in New York.

The number of civil actions launched against the police has fallen from 3,084 in 2014 to 1,586 in 2018, the statistics and Legal Aid analysis show.
