Federal prosecutors recommended on Friday that Dean Skelos, a former attorney and majority leader of the state Senate, should spend more than five years in prison after he was convicted in July of arranging jobs for his son at companies with business before the state.

Lawyers for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York wrote that Skelos, who is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 24, should not be shown leniency by the court because he has failed to express any responsibility or remorse for the actions that led to his conviction.
