A sharply divided U.S. Senate on Wednesday confirmed Eumi Lee to the U.S. District Court for Northern California, ending an eight-month process that required President Joe Biden to renominate the Alameda County trial judge.

Lee was confirmed on a largely partisan 50-49 vote. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, joined Republicans in voting no, and Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Oklahoma, did not vote. The former white-collar defense attorney and law school teacher is Biden’s 144th confirmed U.S. District Court judge.
