As generative AI catches its stride from industry to industry, there’s been a trail of litigation following close behind.

For example, in February, U.S.-based AI powered chatbot Replika, which creates a “virtual friend,” “an AI soulmate,” and “a partner [or] mentor,” according to its website, found itself in the crosshairs of the Italian Data Privacy Protection Authority (IDPPA). But instead of being about copyright issues like in the past, another hitch bubbling up around the technology took center stage: data privacy.
