DLA Piper has boosted its Asia presence with two appointments for the firm's Hong Kong base, including a new head of finance. Matthew Glynn, DLA's head of intellectual property and technology (IPT) for the Middle East, South Asia and Africa, has seen his role extended to cover the whole of the Asia region. He is set to relocate from Dubai to Hong Kong, with his new role effective immediately.

Weil Gotshal & Manges is advising Sanofi-Aventis on its $18.5bn (£12bn) takeover bid for US biopharmaceutical company Genzyme, reports The Am Law Daily. The French pharma giant approached Genzyme earlier this summer for talks about a possible merger, before making an offer in late July, the value of which was revealed this Sunday (29 August).

Kingsley Napley has expanded its family team with the hire of Michael Rowlands from Cripps Harries Hall. Rowlands joined the firm earlier this month as a partner in the family and private client team, bringing the total number of partners in the group to six. He will work closely alongside family practice head Jane Keir. Rowlands, a trained mediator and collaborative lawyer, focuses on mid to high net worth claims arising from divorce or cohabitation breakdown and complex disputes involving children.

A raft of law firms have taken advisory roles as West China Cement became the first Chinese issuer to transfer its listing from London to Hong Kong earlier this week (23 August). The deal handed roles to West End firm Memery Crystal, US firms Sidley Austin and Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, and offshore practice Carey Olsen.

Slaughter and May, Wragge & Co and Eversheds have taken lead roles on AMF Bowling's £27m acquisition of tenpin bowling rival Hollywood Bowl. Slaughters advised longstanding client AMF on the £27m purchase from Mitchells & Butlers, which owns a large portfolio of entertainment venues around the UK. The transaction creates one of the UK's largest tenpin bowling companies, with annual sales of more than £60m.

Norton Rose and Ashurst have won lead roles on the largest-ever sports facilities public private partnership (PPP) - the S$1.4bn (£664m) development of a major sports complex in Singapore. Singapore Sports Hub Consortium, which was appointed by the Singapore Government as the preferred bidder in 2008, has instructed Norton Rose as primary legal adviser.

McGrigors has bulked up its ranks across the UK with 15 new recruits, including a contentious construction team from Hammonds. The 10-strong team joins McGrigors as part a total of 12 recent hires for the firm's Manchester office. The Hammonds team includes partners David Moss, Paul Giles and Richard Anderson. Moss, Hammonds' former international head of construction, handed in his notice at the end of March this year, on one of only two days each year on which equity partners are able to resign from the firm.

The Leeds headquarters of national firm Walker Morris has been sold to a Swiss private trust in a multimillion-pound real estate investment deal. Kings Court in Leeds city centre has been sold by a local investment team from property consultancy King Sturge, acting on behalf of Alliance Trust Real Estate Partnership, an investment company based in Dundee.

White & Case's Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) capital markets head Simon Morgan has left the firm to join US firm Chadbourne & Parke in Moscow. Morgan joins Chadbourne's Moscow office as partner, as the New York-based firm moves to expand its capital markets practice in Russia and CEE.

Allen & Overy (A&O) has relocated London partner Gary McLean to Hong Kong to take on the new role of Asia-Pacific head of corporate. The role was created in order to co-ordinate the firm's corporate presence throughout Asia and Australia. Global corporate co-head Sietze Hepkema commented: "The relocation underlines the firm's commitment to its presence in Greater China.
