  • Ashurst recruits Nabarro financial services regulation chief in the City

    Ashurst has secured a boost for its City regulatory practice with the hire of Nabarro financial services regulation head Rob Moulton. He will join the top 10 UK firm on 1 November as a partner in the financial regulatory group, which is headed by City partner James Perry.

  • Four firms check in for Permira's buyout of online travel company

    Linklaters, Allen & Overy (A&O), Ashurst and Garrigues have all advised on the €250m (£208m) buyout of Spanish online travel agency eDreams by UK private equity firm Permira. Permira has bought the travel agency from US private equity firm TA Associates which obtained the company in 2006 for €153m (£127m). Linklaters advised Permira with a team led by private equity partner Alejandro Ortiz alongside tax partner Javier Garcia-Pita, finance partner Ben Crosse and antitrust partner Jaime Perez-Bustamante.

  • Hogan Lovells Moscow departures continue as disputes partner joins Baker Botts

    Hogan Lovells has seen a second departure from its Moscow office this week with dispute resolution partner Dominic Pellew joining Baker Botts. Pellew is set to join the US firm as a partner in its arbitration practice on Monday (9 August). He joined legacy Lovells from Herbert Smith in 2007 as the firm's sole disputes partner in Moscow.

  • Trio of firms tune in for roles on £100m buyout of Supernanny TV production company

    Herbert Smith, Dorsey & Whitney and Olswang have taken lead roles on Warner Brothers' £100m acquisition of British TV production group Shed Media. Warner Brothers, which was advised by Herbert Smith, will take a majority share in Shed Media following the completion of the deal, which is expected to be confirmed by October. The UK top 10 City firm fielded a team led by London corporate partners Alex Kay and Gareth Roberts.

  • Eversheds to sublet 20,000 sq ft of office space in Leeds base

    Eversheds is to sublet 20,000 sq ft of surplus office space in its Leeds office after a 'space management' review at the firm. The firm has conducted a review in recent months and concluded that subletting the space would still allow it to achieve the target set out in its business plan of expanding the Leeds base at a rate of 3% per annum.

  • Court ruling in A&O layoff dispute reopens debate over status of France associates

    Allen & Overy (A&O) has been ordered to pay damages to a former Paris associate who was laid off last year as part of the firm's global redundancy programme. The magic circle firm declined to comment on the ruling, first reported on RollOnFriday, other than to state: "The court found in favour of the associate and the matter has now been settled."

  • Thirty law firms register interest in scheme to help Halliwells trainees

    Thirty law firms have "registered serious interest" in a scheme to find new roles for a group of trainees left without places due to the administration of Halliwells. The scheme, which was initiated by Burges Salmon earlier this week, has seen the creation on the Bristol-based firm's website of a section for Halliwells trainees to upload their CVs and offer letters. Once the deadline is closed on 13 August, these will then be forwarded to participating firms.

  • Hogan Lovells fields multinational team alongside Freshfields on $1.5bn Volvo sale

    Hogan Lovells and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer have taken the top roles on Ford Motor Company's sale of Volvo to a Chinese car manufacturer, reports The Blog of Legal Times. Zhejiang Geely Holding Group has agreed to pay $1.5bn (£950m) for Volvo in a deal that marks the first time a private Chinese company has taken over a foreign automaker. A team of Freshfields lawyers led by partner Chris Bown in London advised Geely on the deal.

  • Linklaters, SJ Berwin and Ashurst lead on development of new UBS City HQ

    Linklaters and SJ Berwin have taken lead roles on the £340m development and pre-let of the new UBS headquarters on the Broadgate Estate in London. Bluebutton Properties, a joint venture company owned by British Land and Blackstone, has secured a 700,000 sq ft pre-let with UBS at the estate. The new building, when completed, will be the largest office block in the City.

  • Akin Gump continues Hogan Lovells hires with Moscow partner move

    Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has made another hire from Hogan Lovells with the recruitment of Moscow corporate partner Suren Gortsunyan. Gortsunyan advises both Russian and Western companies on M&A, capital markets, joint ventures and corporate restructurings. His clients include companies in real estate, telecommunications, oil services, financial services and industrial sectors. Gortsunyan's move follows that of Ilya Rybalkin, who joined Akin Gump in Moscow in July, marking Hogan Lovells' first partner departure in Europe since the confirmation of the transatlantic merger deal.
