Q: How is the role of general counsel evolving, and how have you adapted?

A: My original perception of the role of general counsel was that it existed only in the corporate arena, and consisted of activities like negotiating contracts and minimizing liability exposure. I never saw that as a role I was qualified or suited to fill. What I’ve come to realize is that as general counsel for a non-profit organization doing direct client services, an attorney can do work benefiting both the organization as well as individual clients.
