A trucker who claimed his supervisors illegally fired him for refusing to haul a load exceeding the federal weight limit was awarded a $436,900 jury verdict.

The eight-person jury handed down its decision Wednesday in favor of driver Michael Kennedy. Most of the $425,000 verdict was for punitive damages, meaning the award will be reduced since the Surface Transportation Assistance Act limits punitive damages to $250,000. The jury also awarded $11,900 in noneconomic and economic damages.
