Through her work in immigration law, attorney Lisa Rivas meets many people who want to become U.S. citizens, but are nervous about the naturalization process.

Not only do immigrants have to show they have a basic command of the English language to become a U.S. citizen, they must pass a civics test. It involves studying 100 questions and then correctly answering six out of 10 posed to them. An applicant may be asked to name one of their state’s current U.S. senators, name one American Indian tribe, or describe what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, for example.
