A hotel ownership group was not damaged when a competitor prevented it from opening a high-end Hilton Hotel in Stamford, according to the state Appellate Court.

The ruling is not necessarily the final chapter in the nearly decadelong battle between two ownership groups with hotels in downtown Stamford. The litigation centers on property on East Main Street. In April 1996, BRS Realty Associates bought a rundown Ramada Hotel at that location. The group intended to fix up the property and reopen it as a midscale Holiday Inn. The group also owned an upscale Marriott Hotel a couple of blocks away and the owners did not want two upscale hotels competing for business so close together.
