The appointment of a Hartford lawyer to a Superior Court judgeship has led to his firm dissolving and its lawyers joining forces with a Simsbury firm. Cesar A. Noble, who had been president and managing partner of Noble, Spector & O’Connor, was recently confirmed by the legislature.
Now four lawyers from Noble, Spector & O’Connor are moving to Simsbury’s Hassett & George, where they will bolster the Insurance and Defense Law practice. The new lawyers bring Hassett & George’s head count to a dozen lawyers.
“As we congratulate Judge Noble on his appointment, my colleagues and I look at this as an opportunity to move forward and continue to grow our Insurance Law and Tort defense group practice with Hassett & George,” said Julie Harris, who spent six years at Noble, Spector & O’Connor and will be a partner at Hassett & George.
Noble was well-known in the region’s legal circles, serving on the state Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities as well as running the law firm.
Along with Harris, attorney Yelena Akim and David Yale are joining Hassett & George as associates. Elliott B. Spector will be of counsel with the firm. The only member of the Hartford firm that didn’t make the move is Dennis O’Connor.
The new hires will temporarily stay in Simsbury for the time being, leasing office space from the now-defunct firm. “We’ll work on a longer term plan based upon the best services we can provide to our clients,” said Hassett & George managing partner Louis George. Hassett & George also has a Cromwell office.
George added that the new lawyers will enable Hassett & George to expand its already active insurance defense practice. “We thought this was a great opportunity,” George said. “The addition of Julie Harris and the others to our firm reflects our continued growth in our comprehensive litigation practice group. These additions will benefit our clients.”
The other name partner, Raymond Hassett, added: “Each of these attorneys brings with them exceptional skill and impressive professional credentials. We are delighted to have them join us.”
In addition to insurance law and defense work, Hassett & George has practices that focus on real estate and land use law; computer and internet law; criminal law; and family law. The firm also has a litigation practice that handles a variety of cases.
