Some attorneys may never give alternative dispute resolution a thought, and they may think that’s fine. Others may have a vague idea of what options are available, but think it has nothing to do with their practice.

Some clients may have a sense (not always accurate!) of what ADR may do for them. Some of those may even know that the American Bar Association prefers the term “dispute resolution” as more appropriate—for a number of years, litigation all the way through to judgment has been more the “alternative” and less the common process.
