Typically the aim is to keep registered sex offenders away from children, and municipalities ban them from living near or coming near schools. The eastern Connecticut town of Montville, however, is trying to take that one step further by adding senior centers to the places that sex offenders cannot come near.

Last year, the town passed a safety zone ordinance that would have banned sex offenders from coming near facilities that serve the elderly. However, the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut stepped in and threatened legal action, claiming such a measure would violate the constitutional rights of the sex offenders. The town then repealed the measure.
