With the death toll nationally at 31, a fungal meningitis outbreak remains a concern to the 14,000-plus people who received what they thought were injections, mainly for back pain, of a steroid made by a Massachusetts-based drug manufacturer.
In Connecticut, only one facility Interventional Spine and Sports Medicine in Middlebury administered shots with the tainted steroid to roughly 40 patients. None of them have fallen ill, at least as of yet. All of them have been contacted by health officials.
