The shriveling in Connecticut courts of one-case-one-judge assignments — “individual calendaring” — is one of the thousand threats that common sense seems to be suffering these days.

Those with federal court experience know what it’s like to be staring down the barrel of the same judge at every court appearance. The judge usually has some recollection of the case. They usually have developed a strategy to get the case to trial. They are responsible for the case and are less likely to tolerate frivolous delays because they can’t pass the buck. Individual calendaring is bedrock in federal court.
