A fella could put together a fun law school course using the legal battles presently playing out in the courts and media. I’d call it “Ripped from the Headlines.” It’d be a welcome alternative to some of the more esoteric (silly?) stuff 3Ls take to get the credits needed to graduate. In no particular order, here are a few of the fun units we’d explore.

In Georgia, there’s an interesting trial of three white men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery while trying to make a “citizen’s arrest” for the crime of running while Black in a white neighborhood. It’s a crime not limited to Dixie. Remember Henry Louis Gates’ arrest in 2009? The crime was entering his own house. The arresting officer was responding to a 911 call (presumably by a white “citizen”) alerting the police that a Black man was entering a house in a white neighborhood.
