Twitter owner Elon Musk asserts he fired the company’s two top legal officers “for cause”—a stance aimed at invalidating severance packages that otherwise would pay the executives tens of millions of dollars, according to news reports over the weekend.

Musk on Thursday completed his $44 billion purchase of the San Francisco-based company and immediately cleaned house, dismissing Chief Legal Officer Vijaya Gadde and General Counsel Sean Edgett, as well as CEO Parag Agrawal and Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal.
