The top lawyer for Southwest Gas Holdings Inc. has taken over as CEO of the Las Vegas-based natural gas company, which is shaking up its leadership team as part of a settlement with billionaire activist investor Carl Icahn. 

Karen Haller secured the president and CEO position on May 6. She succeeds John Hester, who has retired and resigned from the company’s board of directors. Haller will be appointed to the board following an annual stockholders’ meeting slated for May 19.
