Editor’s Note: This is the fourth installment in a monthly column by recruiter Dan Binstock of attorney search firm Garrison. This column answers the many questions about how legal recruiting actually works, focusing on topics relevant both to the hiring organizations and the attorneys making a move. If you have questions to submit to Dan, email him at the contact provided below.

Dear Dan, can you shed some light on recruiters who handle in-house searches? I’m at a top firm and I’m having a difficult time getting recruiters who focus on in-house opportunities to help me. At the same time, I’m getting multiple emails a week from other recruiters about lateralling to other law firms, and they’re practically begging to send me to other firms. Can you explain this disparity? – M.S. (New York City)
