Paul Hastings’ change in leadership style, as well as a lateral hiring pace that leaves support staff gasping for breath, has turned off many employees, leading to an exodus of staff talent, according to former employees, industry consultants and recruiters.

At least 22 marketing and business development staff have left Paul Hastings in 2023, according to The American Lawyer’s count of departures. Sources say the marketing departures are at least partly a result of frustration with management and the firm’s fast pace of lateral hiring.
