With the pandemic and the troubled economy short-circuiting some normally robust areas of energy law, some firms are adding hydrogen practices to their offerings in a pivot that allows them to capture a growing segment of the sector.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, at least three Big Law firms—Baker Botts, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, and K&L Gates—have launched hydrogen practices. Baker Botts on Monday also announced another new practice within the energy umbrella, a carbon capture, utilization and storage practice (CCUS).
