A federal judge granted final approval of a $1.19 billion settlement last week in 90 civil actions filed against DuPont and its related companies for claims that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances had contaminated local groundwater and drinking water supplies in numerous communities across the United States.
A judicial panel on multidistrict litigation centralized the 90 civil actions from eight judicial districts in City of Camden v. E.I. DuPont De Nemours in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina in December 2018. The claims were filed by cities across the U.S. against The Chemours Co.; The Chemours Co., FC; DuPont de Nemours; Corteva; and E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co., now known as EIDP, according to the order and opinion filed Feb. 8.
