A South Carolina judge has agreed to receive a public reprimand and to continue anger management counseling following outbursts on an attorney and scheduling clerk last year that he said were the result of personal and family stressors.

Greenwood County Magistrate Judge Walter Rutledge Martin, who has served on the bench since May 2007, entered into an agreement for discipline by consent and admitted that his conduct violated the Code of Judicial Conduct Rule 501, SCACR: Canon 2(A), requiring a judge to act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary; and Canon 3(B)(4), requiring a judge to be patient, dignified and courteous to litigants, lawyers and others.
