Paul Swegle, general counsel of Observa, EVERY, Breathometer Inc., XeePay and Newyu Inc.

Lawyers generally like to write—so it’s not uncommon for them to draft a book or two in their spare time.

Most of these manuscripts never make it to press. But that’s not the case for Observa GC Paul Swegle, a 10-time general counsel, whose new book, “Contract Drafting and Negotiation for Entrepreneurs and Business Professionals,” was published last week by Business Law Seminar Group.

The 148-page book, which quickly made it close to the top of one of Amazon’s specialty bestseller lists, is a work five years in the making. Swegle, who also serves as GC for Breathometer Inc., XeePay and other companies, told Corporate Counsel it was inspired by his own work as general counsel of several growing businesses. He said in the past some early stage businesses he had worked with signed contracts before hiring him as a lawyer and ended up burned by a bad deal.
