Atlanta-based labor and employment firm Fisher & Phillips, which earlier this month absorbed Seattle’s Michael & Alexander, has added attorney Cheryl Schreck as a partner in Los Angeles.
Schreck, whose career as a labor and employment attorney in LA stretches back to 1987, advises clients on issues ranging from wage-and-hour claims to discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination and retaliation matters.
“I felt that Fisher Phillips has a similar vision to mine, in terms of seeing the #MeToo movement as an important part of serving companies with those types of issues,” said Schreck.
Todd Scherwin, managing partner of Fisher & Phillips’ Los Angeles office, said the firm has fielded an increasing number of calls from clients for training and workplace investigations since the #MeToo movement began gathering force last year. He said Schreck’s experience handling sensitive human resources issues and investigations would be a boon to regional businesses.
“Cheryl has a workplace investigations practice, and both large and small businesses have called on Cheryl to conduct independent investigations,” said Scherwin.
Since last year, Fisher & Phillips’ Los Angeles office has made five lateral attorney hires and has added two first-year associates, according to Scherwin. The 350-lawyer firm currently has about 20 attorneys in the Los Angeles office.
“More than anything, I’m really excited about the vision of the office, its growth in the region and the energy of the attorneys and staff,” said Schreck. In her three weeks at the firm so far, she said she has devoted a third of her time to conducting sexual harassment investigations.
Schreck said Fisher & Phillips has just expanded its office space in Los Angeles, and she expects that growth will continue
“I was just one piece of the puzzle,” she said.
With $176.5 million in gross revenues for 2016, Fisher & Phillips placed No. 155 in The American Lawyer’s 2017 Am Law 200 rankings.
