SAN FRANCISCO — Airbnb Inc. appears to be offering an olive branch to San Francisco with one hand, while preparing for a prolonged legal fight with the other.

On Monday the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Airbnb had expressed willingness to cooperate with the city’s crackdown on illegal short-term rentals by providing hosts’ names, addresses and guest stays as part of a mandatory registration system, a stark change in policy for the short-term rental site which previously resisted such moves.
