Nexenta, a Santa Clara storage solutions company, has named Mavis Yee as general counsel. She had been a global business and transactions practice partner at Nixon Peabody for nearly four years, and before that, a partner at Cooley. She received her law degree from UC-Hastings College of the Law, and before pursuing a career in law, earned her master’s degree in business administration from UC-Irvine and spent four years as a special investigator for the California State Legislature Auditor General’s Office.

SB Product Group, the San Carlos-based joint product and procurement platform for SoftBank and its affiliates, has brought aboard Mariam Missaghi as corporate counsel. She had been an associate at Latham & Watkins since 2010, and before that served as a legal intern for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees and as a judicial extern to U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner in the Central District. She received her law degree from UCLA.

Jonathan Atzen joined Perkins Coie as a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office. The emerging companies and venture capital specialist has been with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton and DLA Piper. Prior to that, he was general counsel at Advanced Cell Technology Inc. See story online.

Kamran Mirrafati has joined Foley & Lardner as a partner in the labor and employment practice in the firm’s San Francisco and Los Angeles offices. Mirrafati provides counsel on a range of labor issues such as union organizing, employee discipline, and contract interpretation and administration, among others. He also regularly conducts collective bargaining negotiations and defends employers facing wage and hour, wrongful discharge, discrimination and other claims. He had been a partner at Seyfarth Shaw.

John Pierce has joined the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins as a partner in the litigation department. Pierce was a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, where he specialized in jury trials and secured judgments and settlements topping $290 million. Prior to attending law school, Pierce served as a tank platoon leader in the 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army.

Four associates have joined Hanson Bridgett’s San Francisco office. Alan Bishop, in the real estate and construction practice, is a 2010 graduate of UC-Hastings College of the Law. Elizabeth Masson, in the employee benefits practice group, graduated from UC-Hastings in 2005. Matthew Peck, who handles complex civil litigation, got his law degree from UC-Hastings in 2012. Rachel Zuraw, in the health-care litigation practice, received her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2009.

Toussaint Bailey, a litigator in the San Francisco office of Richards, Watson & Gershon, has been promoted to shareholder.

Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass has named Maggie Callicrate as its chief operating officer. As COO, Callicrate will lead the firm’s business operations and will work closely with the firm’s managing partners on strategic growth initiatives. She was COO with New England-based Pierce Atwood.
