SAN FRANCISCO — “From now on, this is a thermostat,” the eye-catching advertisements proclaim, displaying a futuristic glowing disk.

But in a class action filed Tuesday, plaintiffs lawyers contend it’s not a very good one. The suit says Nest Labs, which was purchased by Google earlier this year for $3.2 billion, falsely claims its thermostats reduce energy use, violating California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law, and breaching the product’s warranty.
