Berliner Cohen added Jennifer Leung as an associate in San Jose. As a member of the employment law and litigation group, Leung advises employers in wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wage disputes. Prior to joining the firm, she was a litigation associate at Leonidou & Rosin and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. She received her J.D. in 2008 from Santa Clara University School of Law.

LOS ANGELES

Cozen O’Connor added associate Philip Berens to its subrogation and recovery department in Los Angeles. He has conducted jury trials and completed a trial advocacy program that was certified by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. He joined from Early, Maslach and O’Shea. Berens earned his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law in 2011.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Tamara Bogosian joined Best Best & Krieger‘s public safety group in Irvine, where she will oversee the firm’s complex code enforcement cases across Southern California. Previously, she supervised the litigation unit at the Fresno City Attorney’s Office. She received her law degree in 1998 from Western State University College of Law.

Baker Botts announced that Jon Swenson has been promoted to partner in its Palo Alto office, effective Jan. 1, 2014. Swenson represents clients in complex intellectual property disputes relating to patent, copyright and trade secret issues. He graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2004.

Cooley announced that Eric Doherty has been promoted to partner in its Palo Alto office, effective Jan. 1, 2014. Doherty’s practice focuses on all aspects of the formation and operation of private investment funds. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2002.

Fenwick & West announced that the following associates have been promoted to the partnership, effective Jan. 1, 2014: Gerald Audant,a member of the executive compensation and employee benefits group in San Francisco, counsels technology and life sciences companies on employee benefit and equity compensation matters in corporate transactions. He received his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in 2001.

As a member of the securities litigation group in San Francisco, Jennifer Bretan focuses on securities litigation, regulatory and internal investigations and enforcement proceedings and white collar defense. She graduated from UC-Berkeley School of Law in 2004.

As a member of the corporate group in San Francisco, Michael Brown provides strategic counseling to technology and life sciences companies in a wide variety of corporate transactions. He received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law.

Stefano Quintini, a member of the intellectual property and technology transactions groups in Mountain View, counsels companies on structuring and negotiating complex technology deals, such as collaboration and license agreements, joint ventures and strategic alliances across multiple industries. He received his J.D. from the Catholic University of Milan, Italy in 1998 and his LL.M. in law, science and technology from Stanford Law School in 2005.

Karen Webb, a member of the trademark group in Mountain View, specializes in the social media space. She received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2004.

Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman announced that the following associates have been promoted to the partnership, effective Jan. 1, 2014:

Carrie Bonnington, a civil litigation attorney based in Sacramento, represents large commercial entities such as financial institutions, managed health care plans and land developers. She earned her law degree from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2003.

Patty DeGaetano, a member of the corporate and securities practice in San Diego North County, advises companies on SEC reporting and disclosure, corporate governance matters, federal and state corporate and securities law compliance, equity incentives and mergers and acquisitions. She earned her law degree from California Western School of Law in 2004.

D. Benjamin Esplin, a member of the intellectual property practice in San Diego North County, is lead counsel on the firm’s social media and games team and focuses on development and monetization of intellectual property, patent filing strategies, patent preparation and patent portfolio sales and licensing. He received his J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 2007.

Steven Hamilton, a member of the real estate practice in San Diego, concentrates on real estate finance, commercial leasing and hospitality. He graduated from UC-Hastings College of the Law in 1999.

Commercial litigation attorney Dianne Sweeney is based in Silicon Valley. Her practice includes complex business transactions, antitrust litigation, trade secret litigation and white collar defense for high-technology markets. She is President-Elect of the Santa Clara County Bar Association. She is a 1996 graduate from Santa Clara University School of Law.
