Q: What do you like best about being a judge?
A: Well, No. 1, the best thing for going from being a civil litigator to being judge is you don’t have to fill out time sheets anymore. But really, what I love about being a judge is I love the intellectual luxury of learning new areas of the law. Because in law, just like in medicine, we’ve really gotten to the point where you have to specialize. What’s fun for me is I get to learn new areas of the law by being a judge. I’ve learned criminal law and criminal procedure and I’m the court’s environmental law judge, so I’ve learned about that.
