DataDirect Networks Inc. invested in Big Data before it was all the rage.

The Sunnyvale company was founded in 1998 with the aim of helping companies store massive amounts of data, landing NASA as its first client. When the industry caught on about a decade later, it was well-positioned to meet the demand. Today, DDN touts itself as the “big” in Big Data — about two-thirds of the world’s super computers run on its storage programs. More recently, the company began focusing on analytics as well, developing tools to help customers make sense of the massive sets of data.
