SAN FRANCISCO — Two weeks into a jury trial between Onyx and Bayer over a cancer drug, the pharmaceutical companies have settled. But the teams of litigators don’t get to take credit.

While lawyers from Cooley’s Bay Area offices, representing Onyx, and Morrison & Foerster and Chicago’s Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott, for Bayer, were burning the midnight oil in trial, business-side lawyers were involved in their own ’round-the-clock negotiations.
