Three state appellate court nominees sailed to confirmation Wednesday in hearings before the Commission on Judicial Appointments, the last meeting scheduled before outgoing Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, one of the panel’s three members.

Justice Therese Stewart, who has served as an associate justice since 2014, will now serve as presiding justice of the First District Court of Appeal’s Division Two. A former chief deputy in the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office, Stewart is well known for her work on the case challenging the anti-gay-marriage initiative Proposition 8.
