Lane Powell, a Pacific Northwest-based midsize firm, has rolled out a new compensation model that boosts associate salaries while decreasing their billable hours requirement.

The new scale, which went into effect Jan. 1, starts first-year associates at $165,000 in Seattle, up to $230,000 for eighth-years in Seattle. The firm has different scales in its other offices; salaries start at $145,000 in Portland, Oregon, and $140,000 in Anchorage, Alaska.
