Days after state bar leaders filled a long-vacant chief trial counsel position, a key lawmaker said he will no longer require the Senate to confirm the new hire’s appointment as a prerequisite to the bar collecting licensing fees in 2022.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Tom Umberg, D-Santa Ana, said Thursday that he has spoken with George Cardona and found him to be “well qualified” to lead the bar’s lawyer-discipline unit.
